Back on the MTB18 Apr 2012
After winning the Scott 24 hour Solo Australian Mountain Bike Championships last October, I was feeling on top of the world and continued training hard. However an ongoing hip injury sidelined me for the first 3 months of the year and I missed out on some pretty awesome races I had planned. Never fear there are loads of races on the Mountain Bike Calender and I will be back racing on May 20th when the Chase the Sun Series at Lysterfield kicks off. This race is a 6 hour enduro and I can’t wait!!
The past weekend I have been up in Canberra supporting some friends racing in the Solo National 24hour race and this gave me some valuable insights into the other side of 24 hour racing, it also made me keen as mustard for my next 24!! Every day I was there I headed out on a mountain bike ride, most days this included a ride in the morning and afternoon. I had my PureSport Workout drinks throughout my sessions followed by a PureSport Recovery (Banana flavoured!!) straight after my rides. As these rides were my first mountain bike rides back my heart rate went through the roof as I tried to keep up with my super fast buddies. As my body is currently not used to high intensity work outs it was crucial I keep the electrolytes and carbs in during my rides and I credit the Recovery Formula as I was able to continually back up my riding morning and night, day in day out. We headed down the Sapphire Coast to continue our mountain biking holiday, a night ride in Mandeni followed by some awesome flowing single track in Tathra!! What a great week!!!
