Aaron Peirsol, a professional swimmer, was born on July 23, 1983 in Orange County, Irvine, California. He currently resides in Austin, Texas with his family. His younger sister, Hayley Peirsol, is a top swimmer at Auburn University. Aaron Peirsol is known by his pseudonym “Pinesol” in his professional circuit.

Aaron Peirsol attended the Newport Harbor High School in California, and graduated from the University of Texas with a major in Government. He idolizes his stepfather Tim who is also his mentor.

Aaron Peirsol and his sister formed their first swimming team at the Newport Costa Mesa Young Men’s Christian Association (NCMY). Later, he was trained at the Irvine NovAquatics by his coach, Eddie Reese. Being a jack of all trades, he excelled in backstroke, butterfly, and middle distance freestyle events.

At the age of seventeen, Aaron Peirsol made his first debut in the international arena when he participated in the 200 meter backstroke event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. This event fetched him his first silver medal. His stunning performance in the 100 m & 200 m backstroke, and 4x100 m medley events of the 2003 World Championships held at Barcelona added three gold medals to his credit. Aaron Peirsol maintained his winning momentum and won three gold medals in the 2004 World Championships - Short Course held at Indianapolis.

In the same year at the Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece, Aaron Peirsol took part in various events. His exceptional performance in 100 m and 200 m backstroke events and the 4x100 m medley relay earned him three gold medals. In 2005, he participated in the Montreal World Championship and walked away with three gold medals from backstroke and relay events. His winning streak continued, and in 2007, Aaron Peirsol bagged the gold medal in the 100m backstroke event at the World Championships. He set a new world record by finishing the event in less than 53 seconds. He also took part in the 200 m backstroke event, and walked away with a silver medal.

At the Beijing Olympics 2008, Aaron Peirsol competed in the 100 m Men’s backstroke final event held at the National Aquatics Center. He set a new world record with a spectacular finish in 52.54 seconds and won a gold medal. In the 200 m backstroke event, he managed to secure a silver medal after his second-place finish. At the same Olympics, Aaron Peirsol also participated in the Men’s 400 medley relay, and his American team won the gold medal by finishing in a world record time. As of 2008, he stands as an undefeated champion in the 100 m backstroke events since 2002 Spring Nationals. Aaron Peirsol has been awarded the 2005 United States of America (USA) Swimming Male Athlete of the Year Award.

Apart from swimming, Aaron Peirsol is the spokesperson for Oceana, a clean-ocean advocacy group, and he also does a lot of charity.

Aaron loves to photograph and write for magazines like National Geographic as well. Before Aaron Peirsol was into swimming, he used to play water polo, basketball, baseball, and soccer.
