Jessica’s story:

Jess brings to Noosa Tri Camps a background very typical of many triathlete females of today. Coming from none of the three sports that comprise triathlon. Jess was a national level basketball player in her junior years as well as an accomplished downhill skier before taking to the gym and cross training to stay in shape.

Taking the triathlon plunge at age 30 she soon took a liking to the bike and was one of the stronger performers in that leg from her first few events. Only taking up swimming a few years ago, much progress has taken place in this leg and to date the half ironman distance has been Jess’ favourite and last season saw her unbeatable over the 1.9/90/21 distance in her age group with her best time being 4.38 winning the Gold Coast Half Ironman in the 30-34 females. At Ironman WA in 2010 Jess will made her Ironman Debut and won the 35-39 age group in a record 9.49, qualified for the Hawaii Ironman and in 2011 went 10.33 at the World Championships. A Noosa Tri Camps director along with Nick, Jess’ motto is the keep things balanced and have fun during the triathlon journey.

Testimonial:

Huskisson, Australian Long Course Champs was my first race since the Ironman in December, a little rusty as have had quite a bit of time off structured training. Woke up to a beautiful morning in Jervis bay, the day offered similar conditions to SEQLD with temperatures above 30 degrees throughout the day.

I was sipping one bottle of PureSport RECOVERY while setting my bike up in transition, swimming conditions were nice and flat, but a big wave of athletes made it and quite a bit of rough out there and it took me a little while to get into a rhythm. Came out in 31m 59seconds for the 2km and nothing to write home about :-)

The bike course was fairly challenging, rolling hills but just as I like it, came off the bike in first place in my age group with the fastest bike time. My nutrition on the bike with my Aerobottle holding 1.5l of PureSport Workout (Lemon Lime – my favourite) was working well, I also had another bottle on my handle bar with PureSport Workout (Banana) to mix it up a little, the course was 3 laps and I had finished the bottle on first lap and just took a bottle of water to supplement the sugar intake.

Coming off the bike, this is where the lack of training/running showed itself…. One girl who had been trailing me the whole way in the bike ride was obviously coming off some solid running training as she zoomed past me :-( and finished three minutes ahead of me.  I had only one gel on the run, felt quite content the first 10km with what I had had on the bike so no more was needed. All in all had a good day out there, didn’t expect too much, just a really good training day. Don’t want to be really fit at this stage as long term goal is October Kona Ironman! A second place age group and 7th woman overall (incl. Pro’s) on the day. After the race as I was getting the bike out of transition I made sure I had some PureSport RECOVERY to enhance the recovery for the next week of training.
