Career highlight: 2011 FINA World Championship in Shanghai, China. I was a part of the first open water relay squad for 5km and we won a silver medal and that being my first international podium finish is my proudest moment in my career thus far.
Favourite thing outside of swimming: Surfing – you just can’t take me away from the beach I live so close so I use it as much as I can.
Favourite PureSport flavours: Fruit Punch -it tastes great during hard training sessions and in recovery and it’s easy to consume.
Rhys’ story:
I’m a 21 year old West Australian open water swimmer. I started the sport in 2006 and have grown with it ever since. I made my first Australian swim team in 2009 and have been on the team for 3 years now. At the World Championships in 2011 I won a silver medal in the team 5km swim, which was added to the list of events for the first time.
My main goal at the moment is to compete at the Olympics as that’s the pinnacle of open water swimming. I am aiming for a gold medal in Rio 2016, and in the 4 years leading up to this, I would like to win a World Cup, the Series and a World Championship for the 10km distance.
