Athlete Profile
Name: Melinda Cockshutt
Age group: 35-39
Occupation: Lawyer/Financial Services
When and why did you start doing triathlons: A long time ago! 1997. Why? I could run and swim and I thought the bike couldn’t be that hard.
Most memorable sporting
moment:
Finishing my first Ironman. I also surprised myself by going 10hours in my first Ironman (Forster 2002) and qualifying for what I thought was the unreachable – Hawaii.
Greatest sporting achievement: Being an age-grouper, full time worker and mum and coming 3rd overall in the Australian Ironman (only behind Chrisse Wellington and Bec Keat – by same way mind you but still stoked!).
Favourite training session: Interval Running and Bike interval sessions
Favourite race: Hawaii Ironman
Strongest leg in triathlon: All equal (what I come in the swim, I usually come overall!)
Individual PB’s in the past 2 years: 1500 swim - Let’s see at Mooloolaba in March
40k bike – Let’s see at Mooloolaba in March
10k run – Let’s see at Mooloolaba in March
Favourite sports person/s: Chrissie Wellington
Your sporting goals: Getting the most out of my body, having the ‘perfect race’ every time I race and enjoying the race and atmosphere.
Toughest course you have ever done: Wyong Olympic Distance in 1999. It was hot, race start was late (had to tread water for 20min!) and it was an awful ‘dead’ road on the bike and run course.
Craziest sports event you have done: The Northface 100. I did a team (so ‘only’ 54km). Was run fit but obviously not mountain fit. It was ridiculous (beautiful scenery through the Blue Mountain trails). Learnt some hard lessons that day!
Favourite sports teams: Manly (although I am not a rugby league fan!), Carlton (AFL), Australian Netball Team (I enjoy watching them)
Favourite sports gear brand/s: PureSport, Merida and Lorna Jane
Favourite sports store: Gordon St Cycles (Port Macquarie)
Favourite foods: Whatever my husband puts on the table (I don’t cook)
Favourite movies: Dont Know. I don’t even remember movies that I have watched before!
Favourite drink: Coffee…..and PureSport Recovery
Favourite music: 1980s Remixed
Favourite PureSport flavours: Workout – Lemon Lime
Recovery – Banana Berry
Your one wish: Not getting caught up in ‘life’ and taking time to enjoy being with my family, my friends and training/racing. This is my goal every day.
