How it works
The combination of carbohydrates will accelerate glucose absorption from the intestines and increase rate of muscle glucose uptake for rapid glycogen storage. The additional protein will help with this process by increasing the blood insulin response. The added protein (18g in a 2.67 to 1 ratio) will increase muscle protein synthesis resulting in reduced muscle damage, increased muscle tissue repair and increased training adaptation.
There are a number of studies now that show the benefit of adding protein to a carbohydrate energy drink and recovery drink. The protein added to a energy drink will increase aerobic endurance and reduce muscle damage caused by hard exercise. The table below illustrates the amount of PureSport recommended following exercise according to body weight and exercise intensity. For best results PureSport Recovery should be consumed chilled within the first 15 minutes after exercise. If rapid recovery is necessary for a subsequent workout or competition within the next 4-6 hours, a second drink should be consumed between 1-2 hours after exercise.
Note: These recommendations are based on a workout of 1 hour or longer. If exercise duration is less than one hour, PureSport Recovery should be consumed proportionally (e.g. exercise is 45 minutes, consume ¾ of the recommended amount of PureSport Recovery).
